About SSI What is the Senior Studies Institute (SSI)? SSI is an all-volunteer, not-for-profit organization that provides presentations, discussions and other events mainly designed for seniors. SSI was founded in 1991 by Neal Naigus, of Portland Community College (PCC), and a group of seniors dedicated to lifelong learning. We are still affiliated with the PCC Foundation and have since grown to more than 300 members. Purpose This organization shall provide an opportunity for older adults to share in the exploration of topics of mutual interest, to contribute their experience and their expertise, and to expand their circle of friends. (SSI Constitution, Article II) In response to the pandemic and Governor Brown’s Executive Orders, we have moved our learning activities from the traditional classroom setting to the virtual world of the Zoom learning environment. Nevertheless, we endeavor to have a robust program of presentations and activities that rival our pre-pandemic curriculum. In addition to our classes/lectures/presentations we have:
