Senior Studies Institute Board Meeting – November 1, 2019
Present: Donald Steury, Sue Bowers, Donna Jackson, Betty Woods, Peggy Keonjian, Sandy Foran, Marti Summer, Paul Hagner, Carolyn Raz, Kathy McCulloch, David Gaynon, Connie Angelucci, Sharon Nelson. LD Smith, Paul Buchman
Donald called the meeting to order at 9:15 and the minutes were approved as amended. Treasurer’s report shows a bank balance of $19,830. A major expense was related to a computer refurbishing. Paul Buchman will contribute a laptop to our inventory. We will arrange to have it updated.
The paperwork is completed for our transfer to the PCC Foundation. To be reimbursed for any expense over $250 not in the budget will require SSI executive board approval and a notation in the minutes.
Site Coordinator Chair and Member at Large position are now open.
A post Holiday luncheon event is scheduled for January 10. Betty Woods (generously) volunteered to accept reservations and payment. Flyers sent out in early December will highlight the fact that checks must be made out to the Foundation not to SSI and credit card payments will also be accepted.
East is no longer a Current Event location. This group is only suspended however and may find a more convenient location in which to meet.
The SSI constitution must be reviewed every two years and Sandy Foran reviewed the revisions. The committee to do this oversight was composed of Warren Karmol,. Sue Bowers, Sandy Foran and Kathy McCulloch.. Neal Naigus asked that the document contain a statement that SSI will always have the option to meet at a free space at any Portland Community College location.
Peggy Keonjian and Marti Summer will manage the Constant Contact program. The board moved, seconded and agreed to give it a try for three months. After that we will gather feedback from members.
There was some discussion about continuing the PCC.edu/SSI website. (Update): It is not cancelled at this time but it does link to our SSIPDX.org site.
Membership received a thank you card from Jan Vaillancourt re her Lifetime Membership. There are 11 Emeritus (Lifelong) members, 280 continuous members, 33 new members for a total of 324.
Meeting was adjourned at 10:15
