Senior  Studies Institute  Board meeting Oct. 4, 2019

Present:  Donald Steury, Warren Karmol, Kathy McCulloch, Carolyn Raz, Sue Bowers, Joe Leben, LD Smith, Betty Woods, Sandy Foran, Duane Ray, Sharon Nelson, David Gaynon, Paul Hagner, Paul Buchman.

Meeting was called to order at 9:15.  Membership totals 310 with Emeritus 11, new 31 and continuing 268.  As of this date, 93 members remain unrenewed. If they do not do so by the end of October they will be removed from the roster.

Treasurer’s report will be attached to these minutes.

Heidi Brouhard has resigned as Site Coordinator Chair.  This fairly new position was created so that all site coordinators did not have to attend the board meetings.  SCC should visit each site at least once every three months or contact the site coordinator during that time.  Amendment to create position passed.

SSI will reimburse for course material copies made for classes such as poetry and playreading.

Under old business Betty Woods reported that she is compiling a one-page form:FAQ’s on one side and SSI history on the other. Peggy Keonjian will be asked to help organize the material.

Life-long (emeritus) membership is for formerly active members who can no longer be active.  They will receive all benefits.  Jan Vaillancourt was approved as an emeritus member.

Kathy McCulloch volunteered to do some research for a post holiday lunch.

Our relationship with PCC has given us “mostly what we wanted” according to Sue Bowers.  Nothing in membership will change although now members can pay by credit card and checks will be made payable to the PCC Foundation. A link on the website will give more information on this procedure.  Sue noted that the Foundation “is easy to work with.”

The volunteer form will be resent and may be mailed to Neal Naigus, PCC, PO Box 19000,  Portland 97219.

Louise Feldman is no longer available to be a member at large. It was noted that Facilities is a board member while webmaster is not (however, Paul is more than welcome to attend every board meeting!)

Backup for certain SSI jobs  such as webmaster, facilities and membership are necessary.  Discussion ensued as to how to disseminate this information while protecting security and privacy.

The meeting was adjourned at 10:45.
