Senior Studies Institute Board Meeting – February 7, 2020
Present: Donald Steury, Sue Bowers, Kathy McCulloch, Carolyn Raz, Betty Woods, Connie Angelucci, Warren Karmol, Marti Summers, Duane Ray, Paul Hagner, L.D.Smith, Kathy Jackson.
The meeting was called to order at 9:10 by Donald Steury, Chair.
Marti reported on Peggy Keonjian’s convoluted recovery from hip surgery. She noted that through all the setbacks Peggy had retained her sense of humor!
Membership: 10 Lifetime Member; 279 Continuous Members; 52 New Members for a total of 341. Three new members have paid online through PCC Foundation.
Newsletter report by Marti Summers focused on the great “open rate” indicating that about 2/3 of members had opened the newsletter in the past weeks, way above the average for this type of group. It was moved and seconded and approved that we continue using Constant Contact.
Joe Leben has indicated that he could obtain a permit for the picnic held at Mary S Young park in West Linn. James Clem will be asked to provide music again this year since this was a contributor to the turnout at the last picnic. Marti will put a blurb in the Newsletter asking for helpers for the picnic. She will also include a description and plea for volunteers for the Spring Luncheon generally held the first Friday in may.
Sue Bowers noted that tracking both SSI accounts was challenging but that we have $4050 in the Umpqua PCC account and $14,665 in the PCC Foundation account which means we are well within our budget.
We need to be mindful of those with hearing challenges during classes, events and meetings and use the mikes.
Sharon Carrell will return the keys to Warren for the East location. Parking continued to be an issue but we might want to keep our options open at the site in case we have further need of the room.
Discussion ensued on obtaining new locations partly depending on zip codes and other demographics. Willow Creek remains a possibility. Diversity concerns is also an issue.
John and Susan Schenk promoted the DVD courses as a way to attract new members.
The new multi-acre three year project around PCC Metro continues and SSI has been offered space when the newly rebuilt campus is in operation.
There is no information on the Archives.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:40,
Kathy McCulloch , co-secretary
